Highland Village
Highland Village is an upscale bedroom community in southern Denton County. The city was originally a weekend retreat for Dallas residents who had built second homes on the lake. In 1963, after many of these owners had decided to live on the lake permanently, Highland Village was incorporated. Currently, Highland Village is one of the major causes of the tremendous growth of Denton County. Highland Village has been voted one of the best suburbs to live in by D Magazine and has been recognized by the Texas Department of Public Safety as the safest community in north Texas.
Highland Shores, which is a 1500 acre master planned community, is located within Highland Village. Homes were first built in Highland Shores in 1985 and when completed Highland Shores will contain about 1600 homes. Highland Shores is located on the western shore of Lake Lewisville and has many amenities including six miles of hike and bike trails, a community club house, eight tennis courts, basketball courts and 3 community swimming pools.
